Dr Peter Kluger
MBBS (University of Sydney), FRACGP
Peter Kluger carries with him one of the most remarkable stories in Australian general practice. He graduated from the University of Sydney in 1970 and earned his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 1975 — placing him among the very first cohort of GPs in the country to hold the qualification, at a time when formal training for general practitioners was only just taking shape nationally.
That training tradition traces directly back to this practice. It was here that Dr Albert Himmelhoch, a former owner of Gordon Village General Practice and a founding figure in GP education in Australia, helped lay the groundwork for the structured training that became the hallmark of the profession. Peter came to Gordon as a newly qualified doctor to work alongside Dr Himmelhoch — and he never left. It is an extraordinary thread of continuity, one that links the practice’s earliest chapters to the present day through a single pair of hands.
For half a century, Peter has been the face of this practice. Through every change — across three names, a move from the original Khartoum Avenue surgery to Park Avenue and finally to our current home in the Gordon Village Arcade, and more than fifty years of medical progress — he has remained its constant. The loyalty of his patients speaks for itself: many families have trusted him across generations, with grandparents, parents and children all finding their way to the same familiar door.
A skilled clinician and diagnostician with a sharp mind and a great sense of humour, Peter brings genuine warmth to every consultation. Patients describe him as compassionate, dependable and deeply committed — the kind of doctor who listens first and never makes you feel rushed. He has a particular passion for healthy ageing, working with his patients to help them stay active, independent and well for as long as possible.
When he’s not with patients, you’ll find Peter perfecting his golf swing.

Skin Checks
Early detection saves lives, and regular skin checks are one of the simplest ways to stay protected. Dr Kluger performs careful skin examinations and skin cancer assessments, helping patients identify and manage spots, moles and skin changes before they become serious. He encourages all patients — particularly those with a history of sun exposure or skin cancer — to make routine skin checks part of their health care.
Living with a long-term condition calls for steady, coordinated care over many years — and this is where Dr Kluger's experience truly shows. He develops personalised management plans for patients with conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and respiratory illness, working closely with specialists and allied health professionals to keep patients well, supported and out of hospital. His focus is on continuity: knowing your history, tracking your progress, and adjusting your care as your needs change.

Healthy Ageing
A passionate advocate for healthy ageing, Dr Kluger helps his patients stay active, independent and well for as long as possible. He takes a proactive view of the years ahead — managing risk factors early, reviewing medications, and supporting both physical and mental wellbeing — so that growing older means continuing to live life fully. Having cared for many of his patients across decades, he understands what genuinely good ageing looks like.
With more than five decades in general practice, Dr Kluger provides thorough, personalised care for the full spectrum of health concerns — from everyday illnesses and injuries through to complex, ongoing medical conditions. As one of the longest-serving GPs in Gordon, NSW, he draws on a depth of clinical experience that few can match, and takes the time to understand each patient as an individual rather than a set of symptoms. For many families on the Upper North Shore, he has been their trusted family doctor across generations.
