ADHD care in NSW is changing. New reforms are gradually allowing GPs with specialist training to play a much bigger role in ADHD diagnosis and prescribing — taking pressure off long psychiatric waitlists and bringing care closer to home. At Gordon Village General Practice, we are pleased to share that Dr Sarah Saw is an ADHD continuation prescriber under these new arrangements.

What does this mean for our patients?

If you already have a formal ADHD diagnosis from a psychiatrist or paediatrician and are established on medication, Dr Saw can take over your ongoing prescriptions and shared care for patients aged 6 and over. You no longer need to wait months between specialist appointments simply to renew a script. Care can stay local, continuous, and connected to the rest of your health.

A holistic approach to ADHD

Dr Saw's approach to ADHD care is whole-person, not just script-focused. ADHD rarely sits on its own — it often overlaps with sleep difficulties, anxiety, low mood, hormonal changes, gut symptoms, or chronic stress. A short medication review does not capture any of that. Dr Saw takes the time to look at the bigger picture and consider how all these threads fit together.

What does ongoing ADHD care involve?

Routine reviews with Dr Saw may include:

  • Medication review, dosing and side effects

  • Blood pressure, heart rate and general health checks

  • Growth and appetite monitoring (for children and adolescents)

  • Sleep, nutrition, exercise and stress

  • Mood, anxiety and wellbeing

  • Strategies for focus, organisation and energy management

  • Collaboration with parents and schools to support children and adolescents

  • Coordination with your psychiatrist, paediatrician, psychologist or other clinicians

What if I think I might have ADHD but have never been diagnosed?

Dr Saw is currently a continuation prescriber, which means she manages ongoing care for patients with an existing formal diagnosis. If you suspect ADHD but have never been assessed, she can talk through your concerns, screen for other contributing factors, and guide you on the next steps for assessment.
